IMPHAL, Feb 7: While alleging the state government of violating the election code of conduct for the ensuing Konthoujam bye-election, the Manipur Pradesh Trinamool Congress (MPTC) has pointed out disparity in the allotment of escort personnel to the three candidates, namely Dr. S. Ranjan, K. Sharat and Kh. Ranjit.
10 escort personnel of 4th IRB have been allotted to Congress candidate Ranjan by the concerned home department as per the directive of ECI, while only six personnel have been allotted to each of Trinamool candidate Sharat and independent candidate Ranjit.
Speaking to media-persons today, the president of MPTC, Kim Gangte stated that the Congress leaders who are in power have constantly violated the election code of conduct by utilizing all state machineries to garner votes in favour of their candidate. All norms of the Election Commission of India for free and fair poll have been defied by the Congress Party.
She said that the Nambol Police today detained the personal car of Trinamool candidate K. Sharat for many hours at Bomdiyar without giving any reason. The Maruti 800 car bearing registration number MN-1A 7556 was simply used in the transportation of food items for the workers of Trinamool Congress and not for any other purpose.
The illegal detention of Sharat’s personal car is a clear indication of the state force being utilized by the Congress government in the election campaign of the Konthoujam bye-election. The use of government vehicles by the ministers and MLAs in the election campaign is another instance of violating the election code of conduct. The Trinamool Congress has already made complaint to the Election Commission of India and the concerned election observer for the ensuing bye-election, Kim noted.
She further maintained that the Congress Party is trying to exert all their power and strength upon the people with the intention of winning the election forcefully, but Trinamool will prevent all their malpractices to ensure free and fair election to the people of Konthoujam.
The vice-president of BJP Manipur State Unit, Prof. Tiken stated that the Congress Party has adopted very unethical political strategies of using money power and muscle power to garner votes from the people forcefully.
The Congress Party has exhibited its might and power in the previous bye-elections of Khundrakpam, Moirang and Yaiskul but the Konthoujam bye-election will be completely different from other elections with peoples’ consciousness and judgement for electing their representative, he asserted.
Tiken also said that the true image of democracy has been tarnished by the Congress Party which is spreading a reign of misrule and violence all over the country.
The spokesperson of MPTC, Th. Imocha stated that the imposition of CrPC 144 in areas of Imphal West is a ploy to curve the election campaigns of Trinamool Congress and appealed to the concerned authority to deploy central paramilitary forces in Konthoujam area until the completion of election.
