Two infants succumb as diarrhoea stalks Tamenglong

IMPHAL, Feb 9: Atleast two infants have been reportedly died in Khoupum area under Tamenglong district following an outbreak of diarrhoea.
According to Chamdinmei, secretary Khoupum Area Village Authority Council, (KAVAC) stated the situation has been aggravated due to absence of Doctors at Khoupum-PHC for the last one month adding so far two infants one from Gaidimjang-II identified to be one Gailiangpou Kamei, 6 months old, s/o Rifleman Kaguigai Kamei at RIMS Hospital and another child Gaigongthui Riamei, 7 months old, s/o Tanaichung of Duithanjang died immediately after arriving Imphal due to the disease.
It said that the two precious live could have been saved if doctors are available at Khoupum PHC. Many more infants from Khoupum have been brought to Imphal from Khoupum and undergoing treatment at hospitals in Imphal. The plights of children whose parents cannot afford to take them for medical treatment at hospitals in Imphal are left to the mercy of God, it maintained.
The KAVAC further urged the concern authority to depute medical team immediately and ensure that doctors are available at Khoupum PHC all the time. It requested that necessary action may be initiated against the absenting doctors whose negligence has resulted in the killing of two innocent children.
Further, it appealed to the concern authority to take up immediate action against the G. Badhal Sharma, SO, PWO who work as sub-contractor of G. Keipha, contractor, who had drawn Rupees 11 lakhs last year for the construction of Khoupum IB without executing any work till today. Such irresponsible official should punish according to law and the said work has to be completed at the earliest.
