Bomb blast rocks Imphal on President’s first night in state

IMPHAL March 10: Amidst tight security vigil for the maiden visit of the President to the state, a powerful bomb exploded at Nongmeibung near Ananda Singh Academy at around 10.55 pm tonight. A nearly 2 feet wide 6-7 inches deep crater was created about 20 feet south of the main gate of the school by the explosion.
Tin roofing of part of the school near the crater were also damaged and glass window pane of nearby houses shattered in the shockwave. Police suspects the bomb may have been planted some time back and detonated using a remote control. No one was hurt in the explosion.
Sources further maintained that the explosion was quite sudden and could have been meticulously planned.
Senior police officials of the Imphal East Police have rushed in to the spot to take stock of the situation. on preliminary search of the spot police have found four dry cell batteries and a few meters long dual wire were recovered igniting suspicion that the blast coud be a IED.
In the aftermath of the bomb blast Imphal east Police commandos conducted search operation around the area however there has been no report of any arrest of suspects so far.
Even though a tight security blanket is already deployed in the entire Imphal areas, additional police personnel have been deployed in the wake of the blast in the area.
