CM stresses on power supply; whole state to be electrified by 2014

IMPHAL, March 30:  A state level special training program for the implementation of the poverty elevation programs initiated by Congress led UPA coalition government was today inaugurated by the state Chief Minister O. Ibobi Singh in the presence of MPCC president Gaikhangam, cabinet ministers, congress MPs, MLAs and congress officials today at Congress Bhawan Imphal.
While speaking at the inaugural function the Chief Minister disclosed that the centrally sponsored flagship programs are being implemented in the state in spirit and in letter as per directions from the All India Congress Committee (AICC).The UPA government in the Centre has extended 15 flagship programs for the benefit of the poor in the state so that they may live a respectable life, he said.
The chief minister made a particular emphasis on Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyati Karan Yojana (RGGVY) given the sorry state of power in the State. RGGVY anticipates rural electrification, bringing in light to every nook and crannies including the hill districts of the state by 2014, Ibobi said, adding that the project has already taken wings in Tamenglong district of Manipur.
Power consumers in the State have the knack of not clearing their dues which has run into Rs 200 crore at last count. The electricity Act has now been amended to streamline tariff collection by the department and the government is looking to collect the dues from the consumers in the next 3 months, he added.
Regarding the present difficulties face by the power Chief Minister further said that at present the department is taking up a good step on collecting the tax electric from the consumers in the State and have been collected more the lakh of Ruppes under the electricity Act.
And further requested that all congress man to participate this training programme and to convey about the SPF government done so far for the development of the state people.
While speaking at the inaugural function Rishang Keishing, Rajya Sabha MP who is also the former chief minister of Manipur at Congress Bhavan also said that Manipur is the only state in the country where centrally sponsored schemes are prevented by insurgents to reach the target beneficiaries.
The veteran Congressman went on to say that the Congress party should attempt to rein in stooges of insurgency to usher in peace and prosperity for the new generation, while adding in good measures that the unwavering commitment of the Congress party led to the independence of the country. “The Congress party is the only political party that does not differentiate on the basis of religion, caste, community etc.” he stated.
In the meantime during the inaugural function, MP, Rajya Sabha senior congressman Reshang Keishing, MP Lok Shabha (outer) Thangso Baite, Speaker I Hemochandra, ministers and MLAs of congress and MPCC official including the District Cpngress Committee presidents and others were also attended  the function.
