Edu dept plans first of a kind teacher recruitment in state

IMPHAL March 16: The Department of Education (S) in a step towards transparent recruitment of personnel will conduct DPC for 536 graduate teachers for the newly upgraded 67 high schools in the state.
Briefing media persons in a press conference held at the Babupara office of Rastriya Madhyamik Sikshya Abhiyan (RAMSA), principal secretary of Education (S) J Suresh stated that the recruitment process will be a first of its kind in the state. To promote transparency in the recruitment process and to avoid hiccups, the department has initiated a point system in the process. Out of a hundred marks, the candidates will be awarded certain points according to the marks obtained beginning from class X results onwards up to the masters’ degree, another 15 marks will be allocated for the interview which will weigh the aptitude and merit of the candidate. The teachers will be engaged for a contract term of one year and the salary will be provided by the centre. The results of all the candidates will also be displayed to ensure that no favoritism or corrupt practices have taken place during the recruitment.
Suresh further stated that the education department is trying to improve the quality of the Government schools, but the process will take time for improvement, the teachers who will be newly recruited will start work from April onwards and will take classes from class VIII onwards. For fair admission to the model schools, lottery will be held to facilitate the process also. He further stated that at present there are no standard guidelines for private schools, according to the norms, the ZEO or concerned officials should inspect the facilities provided by the private schools and discuss objections towards the school by the guardians. The act for streamlining the private schools has been recently enacted and will be implemented in the state shortly, “It will take one and half months for drafting and approval from the state cabinet, he said. Once the act is implemented then private schools will be scrutinized if a suitable environment has been established for the students, he added.
The Principal Secretary further stated that since the inception of the SSA and RAMSA schemes, dropout rates of the state has been one of the lowest in the country. The scheme also provides provisions for disabled persons which are wholly funded by the centre, hearing aids, and crutches even helpers to aid disabled persons are provided.
In another step to help the students including the disabled and better administration of education in the state, a Global Positioning System (GPS) for mapping of schools is currently underway and is nearing completion, the endeavor will help provide essential data of the locations of the government schools in the state and the vacant areas where new schools can be built. The Principal Secretary further stated that the mid day meal scheme is also being closely scrutinized by setting up committees consisting of the representatives of the institutions and guardians.
It was also announced that another 318 teachers for the fine arts ,106 physical instructors and 108 vocational trainers will be recruited by the education department and the post are already sanctioned by the SSA.
