IRL for three state Inaugurated in Manipur, TB Day observed

IMPHAL, March 25: The first of its kind Intermediate Reference Laboratory (IRL), in the entire North East Region, was inaugurated in the state on March 19 at R&D wing Lamphelpat by Health minister, L. Jayentakumar.
The inauguration function was jointly organized by the Medical Directorate and Manipur State TB Society.
The IRL would help the authority concerned to determine MDR-TB (a stronger strain of TB) more easily. The lab was open for three sate which included Mizoram, Nagaland and Manipur.
The inauguration function was attended by health minister, L. Jayentakumar Singh, as chief guest. While V. Vumlunmang, IAS, commissioner health, Professor Lokendro, HOD micro biology JNIMS, PK. Jha, Director NRHM of Manipur, S. Ibomcha, director health service, Dr. Shyamo, director JNIMS as the president and guest of honour of the function respectively.
On the other hand, the 29 World TB Day was also observed in the state today, at the Jubilee hall of RIMS jointly organized by the Directorate of Health services Manipur, Manipur State TB Society and District TB Soceity Imphal East and Imphal west district.
A rally was also organized in this regard.
The observation was attended by V. Vumlunmang, commissioner health as the chief guest and Dr. S. Ibomcha Singh, Director Health Services, as the functional president.
Speaking during the function the health commissioner expressed his satisfactory on the progress of the treatment of TB in the state which has reached achieved 86 percent rate of cure.
