Iron Lady released but continues with fast

IMPHAL, March 10: Irom Chanu Sharmila nick named “Iron Lady” as usual continued with her over a decade old fast unto death demanding the repeal of the Armed Forces Special Powers’ Act (AFSPA) 1958 after being released from judicial custody today.
Sharmila was released from the JN Hospital security ward at about 1:30 pm. A group of activist of the Sharmila Kanba Lup who has been endorsing the movement of Sharmila, warmly received her after the release.
Sharmila along with the group of activist proceeded towards the site where the lup has been staging a relay hunger strike near the JNIMS Doctors’ hostel and continued with her fast.
While interacting with media persons there, Sharmila said that “India is a democratic country and I want the privilege of enjoying my rights of being a citizen of a democratic nation”. She lamented that arresting and confining a person alienates her thoughts of being a citizen of the country.
Strongly adhering to her previous stand, Sharmila vowed to continue her fast until her demand is fulfilled. She further expressed that the visit of the President does not make any difference to her.
According to her point of view she observed that all politicians are like businessmen and expressed her desire to bring a change to it.
Further Sharmila expressed her desire for the government to repeal the AFSPA once and observe the difference.
