IMPHAL, March 13: Matching steps with the security forces and running together for an event of peace, Lamkaites participated in a veteran marathon organized by 27 Sector Assam Rifles under HQ IGAR(S) on March 12. The event started in the wee hours of the day with a route of approx five and a half kilometers. The local villagers came out of their houses to cheer for the participants and were thrilled by the ambience and were exhilarated by the excitement generated in the atmosphere.
The design of the route started from Tuibong and went upto Churachandpur police station, bus stand, Synod hall, public ground and concluded at Peace ground. The participants were felicitated by Commander 27 Sector Assam Rifles with a T-shirt after the run and were provided with refreshments and tea. The people of Churachandpur pledged to maintain the reign of peace in the area and promised to openly come out against extortion, tax collection and atrocities by underground elements. The AR run was a huge success and received an overwhelming response indicating that there are many more such endeavors in the offing.
