IMPHAL, March 13: The Manipur Peoples’ Party (MPP) and its like minded political parties will form a pre poll alliance to overthrow the SPF Government, said former Union Minister, Thounaojam Chaoba, during a one day political conference cum reception of chairpersons of Lamlai Nagar Panchayat, at Pundongbam Lai-Mandap, Imphal East district.

The former Union Minister and the MPP president, Dr. Nimaichand Luwang attended the function as guest of honour and chief guest respectively. The function, organized by the MPP youth front Lamlai Kendra was also attended by other executive members of the party.

Further in his speech, Th. Chaoba, observed that a divide has been developing among INC MLAs which is visible at the moment.

Further observing the growing movement of regional parties in some part of the country, Th. Chaoba said that the trend is also sweeping across the North east region. Nagaland and Tripura are already in the hands of the regional party and same will be the fate of Assam before appealing to the people to support regional parties which are working in the interest of their respective states.

The former Union Minister lamented that the Governors’ address failed to reflect a long term measure to solve the untold miseries frequently faced by the people like the shortage of essential commodities. It lauded the revenue drive of the electricity department which has however failed to monitor the outstanding dues of the government departments and different base units of the army, he said.

Dr. Nimaichand Luwang, while delivering his chief guest speech, said that the aim and objective of the only regional party (MPP) is to bring a change in the state. He said that the decade year old rule of the SPF has left many women as widows and children as orphans before adding that Manipur is on the verge of becoming like Tripura where Tripuris have become almost extinct.

At the same time, he maintained that the only achievement of the SPF government till date is corruption. To get a job in the police department and the education department people are spending lakhs of rupees. In Tamil Nadu a kg of rice cost only two rupees when compared to Manipur where it cost about 23 rupees a kg, he concluded.
