State govt considering exporting state delicacies outside

IMPHAL, March 28: A two days long Awareness Programme on Food Safety and Quality begin today at Hotel Classic, Imphal, jointly organised by Ministry of Food Processing Industries Govt of India, Quality Council of India New Delhi and Health & Family Welfare Department Government of Manipur.
The inaugural session was graced by L. Jayantakumar Singh minister of Health & Family Government of Manipur as chief guest,  B Venkataraman chief executive officer QCI as guest of honour and Dr. S. Ibomcha Singh director of Health Services Govt. of Manipur as president of the function.
In his chief guest speech minister, L. Jayenta, while noting that India is among the leading producers of food in the world, informed that the Manipur government has communicated  with two leading food laboratories of Kolkata for making them partners to export the state food items around the country as well as outside the country.
He further expressed that the citizens has every right to good health however the main issues remains how far the quality and safety of different varieties of food are maintained. He observed that organizing such programmes will motivated the state health & family welfares services officials in the right trek.
Dr. S. Ibomcha Singh in his presidential speech stressed the need to check the mushrooming foods items produced by NGOs and organization in the state and especially the food items coming from Myanmar.
The awareness programme will conclude on March 29.
