IMPHAL March 11: The 1st World Thang-Ta Championship 2011 organised by Huiyen Lanlong Thang-Ta Association in colloboration with Thang-Ta Federation of India kicked off today at Khuman Lampak Indoor Stadium, Imphal. The opening ceremony was graced by MLA M. Prithiviraj as the chief guest, President of World Thang-Ta Federation H. Premkumar as the functional president, MLA Salam Joy Singh, Birjit Ngangomba chief advisor TTFI and padmashree RK Achouba as the guests of honour. The 1st edition of World Thang-Ta championship will conclude on March 14. The participating teams are Malaysia with 16 members, Nepal with 9 members, UK with one member, Bangladesh with two members, Sri Lanka with three members and host India with 325 members is the large contingent in the championship. Chief guest of the function M. Prithiviraj expressed that the SPF govt led by Okram Ibobi and sports minister will give pressure to ministry of Sports Govt of India to approve the Thang-Ta as martial arts one of the discipline.
