Youth succumbed allegedly to extreme torture meted out by security personnel

IMPHAL, March 15: A drug peddler today succumbed to his injury at RIMS after being detained under the custody of security personnel for several days.   
Following the death an irate mob today stormed Lilong police station. Resisting to the mob a confrontation took place between the mob and police.
In an attempt to disperse the mob the police resorted to firing of tear gas shell and live bullets in the air. No civilian casualties were reported due to the confrontation except reports of injury of 7 police personnel from stones pelted by the mob.
The deceased is identified to be one Md Sirajur Rahman, 30, of Lilong Haoreibi Sumbrukhong.
Reports said that the victim was arrested by personnel of 28 Assam Rifles from Lilong Masjit Lamkhai at about 8 pm on March 13 along with a friend namely one Md. Majibur, 24, so Fajur Rehman of Lilong Yangbi Leikai. Reports further said that they were arrested along 1136 SP tablets, 43 boxes of N-10 tablets and 9 mobile phone handsets.
The following day the deceased was handed over to Lilong police by the Assam Rifles.
Subsequent upon the deteriorating condition of the deceased the police informed the members of his family of his health and later admitted him RIMS Imphal but failed to recovered and succumbed to his injury at about 11 am yesterday.
Family claimed that the deceased died due to extreme torture meted out by the security personnel under their custody.
