IMPHAL April 21: The Assam Rifles in a press statement stated that, an officer of the 28 AR who was ignorant of protocol was involved in the incident. The said officer was travelling in his Maruti Gypsy along the Bir Tikendrajit Road flyover, when the convoy of the justice Tayenjam NandaKumar came up from behind.
But, due to ‘non availability’ of space the convoy couldn’t be given passage immediately. While overtaking the vehicle one of the escorts in the convoy hurled abuses towards the AR officer. The officer followed the convoy to the court complex located at Lamphel and approached the honourable judge to inform him about the misconduct.
It was with due ignorance and unawareness of protocol that the officer approached the honourable judge directly, the release said.
Further, as the AR major was told about the same, he expressed his desire to apologise to the judge but could not get an audience though an appointment was fixed for 11 am today for tendering the apology, however it couldn’t materialise due to the busy schedule of the chief justice.
The AR statement adds that, serious note has been taken of the act by Assam Rifle authorities and strict disciplinary action will be initiated against the officer concerned for the breach of protocol.
