KapingUKHRUL / 25 April : The opening ceremony of a week-long Handloom and Handicraft Mela or Exhibition under Ukhrul District Handloom and Handicrft Co-Operation Federation( UDHAHCOF)`s NGO Themsak (skilled) Award day was held today at the Ukhrul Town Hall in the presence of K Indramani Singh general manager, Manipur State Sociey Co-Operative Bank who attended the function as the chief guest.
The opening ceremony was held in a jam-packed hall and conglomeration of general public, SHG beneficiaries, NGOs etc.
The function started in the morning at the town hall with various participants from the 37 stalls and 128 federations taking part in the mela exhibiting their skills or manually made items essentially Tangkhul Naga Traditional handicrafts and traditional dresses and sculpture, stated George Varengnao, advocate and a leader of one member organizations of the mela to this Ukhrul correspondent of IFP.
The function was also attended by TH. Maniketan Singh, Manager, Ukhrul MSCB and L. Angoutombi Singh also the Chief Officer MSCB as president and guest of honour respectively.
Goerge Vaengnao attended as Moderator while Hunphun headman provided the opening Prayer. UDHAHCOF (SHG) Ukhrul walked away with the first prize of Rs 10,000 during the function while Themsak Handicraft, (SHG) came in second and bagged a prize of Rs 5000.
Entertainment was provided by Owshim Shongwungnao, Worin, Sharon and Apem and party.
The Vote of thanks was delivered in by H Valley Rose, editor of the Vernecular Aja daily.
