Increase in crime mulled over at Lilong peace conference

IMPHAL, April 17: A community level “Peace Conference” was held today at the Jame Masjid, Lilong discussing many issues concerning the state especially the increasing number of crimes in the state. The conference was organized by the Jamia Ulema-I-Manipur a highest decision making body of the Islamic culture and it was attended by leaders of many civil society organization which included All Manipur Tammi Chingmi Apunba Nupi Lup, Nupi Samaj, United NGO’s Mission, Universal Mothers’ Association, Heiricoun etc.The meet after deliberate discussion on the issues of unabated crimes witnessed during the last two years most importantly the current year adopted resolutions to tackle the task.In the first resolutions, the gathering while condemning the incident of killing, burning houses, communal tension and other heinous crimes agreed to mount pressure on the authority concerned to start to hunt down culprits involved in different crimes and punish them as per the law. In order to prevent such incidents in the future, the Jamia Ulema-I-Manipur would take up different steps and sought people’s co-operation to minimize crime, it further resolved.While opposing the fear psychosis and intimidation meted out to the people due to monetary demands, the meet resolved to urge the government and people to extend co-operation to Jamia Ulema-I-Manipur in curving the problem.Further, it resolved that Jamia Ulema would to take up active role in bringing remedy in the event of any communal flare-ups amongst different communities residing in the state.
