Landhoni ends fast say women leaders

IMPHAL, April 28: After 52 days of indefinite hunger strike in the custody of the NIA, Kh Landhoni reportedly ended her stir following an appeal made by women leaders of the state.
Landhoni, it may be mentioned, has been in the custody of the NIA in Guwahati since August 2010 after she was arrested while trying to meet her husband Kh Jiten alias Khomba of Awang Sekmai who is a cadre of the UNLF arrested by the NIA sleuths in Guwahati last year.
Landhoni, had been undergoing hunger strike since February in protest against her arrest claiming that she is not a member of the proscribe outfit though her husband was an active cadre.
News about Landhoni’s suspension of hunger strike inside the NIA custody was revealed to mediaperson today by some women leaders of the state who visited Landhoni few days back and persuaded her to end the hunger strike for the sake of her children.
Briefing mediaperson today in Imphal regarding Landhoni’s end of fast, president of All Manipur Women Social Reformation and Development Samaj (Nupi Samaj), Th Ramani said women leaders of four organisations visited Guwahati recently and met Landhoni.
Ramani said the women leaders included representatives from the Nupi Samaj, AMKIL, Universal Women Organisation and Apunba Manipur Kanba Ima Lup and met Landhoni on April 25. On the day, the women leaders persuaded Landhoni that she need to keep herself alive for the sake of her children. On seeing the deteriorating health condition of Landhoni, the women leaders persuade Landhoni to end her stir, Ramani said adding that Landhoni however made no comments on their request.
On the next day, the same team of women leaders visited Landhoni and persuade her to end stir, Ramani narrated and maintained that Landhoni agreed to end her fast following the appeal made from the state women leaders.
