IMPHAL April 30: Youth Adventure Tourism Festival 2011 organised by the Manipur Mountaineering and Trekking Association in association with tourism department, government of Manipur under the aegis of the Ministry of Tourism government of India kicked off today at the Lamdang MMI complex.
The opening function was attended by minister of Tourism TN Haokip as chief guest, commissioner Tourism KK Chettry IAS as president and Dr Dhabali MD Classic Hotel, Ashokkumar senior manager loktak project and Yambem Laba as guests of honour.
During the opening session, the chief guest opened the official ebsite of MMTA, MMTAmanipur.com.
He also expressed that Manipur is the leading state in the field of adventure tourism in the entire Northeast and with the lifting up of the PAP, many adventure tourist will start flocking into this adventure tourism haven.
The festival will have Trekking expedition along the Laimaton range (hill) and exploration of Japanese war medical head quarter, boating at Loktak, rock climbing & obstacles.
A one day seminar on adventure tourism, trekking to Leimatak Japanese bridge & Rafting, cultural programmes and talent show and a one day indigenous food festival will be the main highlights of the festival.
During the opening function the dignitaries and the visitors observed a two minute silence in memory of Nawang Gambhu, first person to scale the Mt Everest twice who recently passed away.
The tourism minister also laid the MMI foundation stone at MMI complex Lamdang.
During the festival Trekking to Laimaton range (hill) & exploration of Japanese war medical head quarter., Trekking lotak for boating, Rock climbing & Obstacles, One day seminar on Adventure Tourism, Trekking to Leimatak Japanese bridge & Rafting, Cultural programme & Talent show, site seeing to KNLP & Loktak and one day indigenous food festival by 5 surrounding community of MMI complex.
