`Manipur the only state in the country to have judiciary officers with training on Mediation`

IMPHAL, April 20: Manipur has become the first and only state in the country to have judiciary officers with training on Mediation. This was disclosed by Chief Justice of the Gauhati, Justice Madan B Lokur today during the inaugural ceremony of the District Court at Lamphelpat.

Speaking at the function Justice Madan said he had talked with the state Judiciary officers and discussed about the portfolio status in Manipur but found some judges overloaded with works and cases while some have inadequate because of their posting.

Madan further said he will look into the matter of distribution of works and finalise about work allocation so that no judges can complain about judiciary works.

He further said that concern authority is looking at restructuring of the judiciary for better utilization of judiciary resource that is available.

We do have several categories which need to pay attention like cases of narcotics, matrimonial case etc. He said that utilization of human resource is absolutely essential and works in this direction is being paid attention.

He further said concerned authorities are looking at amicable settlement of disputes and all the pending cases. It is not that every person has to come for every problems to court of law, many of the problem can be solved admicably with a cross table, he added.

The District Court is a part of largest scheme for the Gauhati High court to modernization and improvement and capacity building of judiciary officers in Manipur.

Giving the presidential speech, state law and legislative affair minister Th Debendra Singh said that judiciary play an important role in democracy and hence every citizen must respect judiciary for strengthening of peoples rights and to resolve themselves to protect their interest and liberty as without the judiciary, democracy cannot survive.

Works minister K. Ranjit also who attended the function as geust of honour said that SPF government is very kin to the judiciary and so in the interest the government is taking up several developmental program in the state.

He further added that the High Court complex which is presently under construction at Chingmeirong will complete soon.

N Koteshore Learned Advocate General Manipur, Justice T Namdakumar Judge Guwahati High Court, Justice TNK Singh Judge Guwahati High Court, members of the Bar Association also attended the inaugural ceremony .
