The Cenrtre for organization Research and Education (CORE) in a statement has expressed its deepest agony on the incident.
It said that the reported ambush was clearly an attempt to assassinate the MLA which has claimed seven lives and injuring five others.
It is a matter of great fortune that the MLA himself survived the deathly ambush. However, the dead of six security staffs, one civilian and injuring others is a deeply lamentable matter, it said.
It recalled that the MLA who is presently at the helm of the Phungyar district demand committee as convener is seeking a separate district to be bifurcated from existing Ukhur district, has been recently in a vulnerable position due to criticism from certain quarters.
Under this vitiated circumstance the attempt to assassinate Keishing leaves many questions unanswered. CORE urges the government of Manipur to immediately institute a judiciary inquiry under a sitting high court judge or CBI inquiry.
The CORE has further urged the government of Manipur to provide adequate compensation and support to the deceased and injured persons while conveying its deepest condolences to the surviving families and wishing a speedy recovery to those who are injured.
