Police rescue man abducted by KCP

IMPHAL, April 7: Commandos of Thoubal police rescued a man abducted by KCP (KK Nganba) at about 7 am this morning from Ukhongsang Mamang Leikai, Thoubal district and also succeeded in apprehending a member of KCP who was involved in abduction of the man.

The abducted man was identified as Thokchom Naoba (31) s/o (L) Thokchom Selung, Upa Pradhan from Ingourok Awang Leikai. According to police, Naoba went to Hijam Khunou near Nongpok Sekmai at around 10 am yesterday for negotiations with KCP (KK Nganba) who served a monetory demand of Rs. 5 lakhs to Maibam Sunita, pradhan of Lourembam Gram Panchayat. The source after taking Rs. 6000 paid by Maibam Sunita, Naoba was abducted by the members of KCP and taken to Hijam Khunou Hillock and kept Naoba in a house located at Ukhongsang. On hearing the news that Naoba was abducted, Thoubal police rushed to the area and rescued Naoba form the abductors this morning.

The man involved in the abduction of Naoba and later apprehended by Thoubal police commandos is identified as Thangjam Bobo s/o Thangjam Raghu from Ulhongsang Maning Leikai. He amount of Rs. 6000 given by Maibam Sunita to Thokchom Naoba for paying to the KCP (KK Nganba) was later recovered from Thangjam Bobo by the police. As disclosed by Thangjam Bobo, police raided the residence of another accomplice Maibam Chaoba s/o Maibam Komol from Ukhongsang Awang Leikai but is absconding. In the search operation conducted at the residence of Maibam Chaoba, police recovered two hand grenades from his residence.
