IMPHAL, April 13: The issue between the All Manipur Recognized Private Schools Welfare Association and the Manipur Students’ Federation got murkier today with the secretary general of the former claiming physical abuse by the president of the students’ federation.
While speaking to mediapersons during a press conference held at the Manipur Press Club this evening, H Japan secretary general, All Manipur Recognized Private Schools Welfare Association claimed that the MSF president attacked him physically using a stick after calling him for a meeting at the MSF office located inside the Raja Dumbra School.
According to him, the incident happened last evening at around 4:30 pm at the MSF head office located inside the RDS compound. He along with other officials of the AMRPSWA had gone to the MSF office after the students’ federation had asked the association to clarify on the issue of the three books that the AMRPSWA had issued to the schools.
H Japan who is also the founder principal of Hijam Irabot Memorial Public School further clarified that the three books for Maths, Social Science and Science were issued to the students of only six private schools so as to help the students start their classes before the BOSEM prescribed books are made available in the market. BOSEM had already set April 18 as the deadline for the books to be made available in the market.
Briefing the mediapersons he further added that the association had brought an agreement during a meeting with the MSF at their office yesterday after the students’ federation opposed the idea of using any other book other than the BOSEM prescribed books. AMRPSWA had agreed not to use the books as asked by MSF and to further hand over the same to the MSF, he added.
However even as the agreement was brought between the MSF and AMRPSWA, he further alleged, the MSF president called him aside into a separate room and threatened him and asked him to dissolve the private schools’ association without giving any reasons. At which he replied that dismissing the association is not in his hands.
Hearing his negative reply, he further alleged that the students’ federation president charged at him holding a stick.
Citing that the MSF has failed to check various catholic schools in the state, which have been using books published outside the state, he has further claimed that even BOSEM has been using around 15 books not published in the state.
The students of the state has been hard hit by various problems including bandhs, blockades and other issues including the failure of BOSEM to provided the prescribe books in time and in such a  junctures, the association was only trying to help the students by supplementing with books from outside the state, he further stated.
Doren Khaba Nganba, president AMRPSWA further added that MSF should also take a proper stance wherein schools in the hill districts of the state are already having their half yearly exams, whereas schools in the valley districts have just started their classes.
He also decried the incident where a student body had physically abused a teacher and seized books from school students.
He has further appealed to the state government, people of the state and various other civil organizations to intervene into the issue.
