Training programme to augment product of livestock products concluded

IMPHAL, April 22: The Department of State Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Services, Manipur have conducted three days training programme on Piggery and Poultry rearing for 50 farmers at Phungreitang, village in Ukhrul district from April 18 to April 21 this month with the aim to augment product of livestock products through promotion of livestock and poultry farming among the people.
 On the concluding day on April 21, a formal closing function was held attended by HL Jain SDC, Head quarter Ukhrul as chief guest and presided over by Dr Th Debendra Kumar Singh, joint director (Vety).
The chief guest during the closing function said that livestock and poultry farming can generate self employment for socio-economic upliftment of rural families particularly in the hills like Ukhrul district where wet-cultivation is difficult.
 He further said that it is highly time to rethink by the people of Ukhrul district for switching over towards livestock and livestock products from other places including bordering Myanmar country. He further appreciated the department for conducting such training programme in different villages of Ukhrul district as the training programme, in spite of short of duration, would surely give very good impact to the people for promotion of livestock and poultry farming, and later appealed the farmers to forget the usual habit of attempting for big farming at the beginning, instead advised to start with small farming with easy investments and then to grow gradually for successful farming and sustainable development.
Dr. Th, Debendra Kumar Singh in his presidential address said that,  the training programme was aimed to give basic knowledge of scientific and hygienic livestock and poultry farming for the beginners so that more and more people can participate in the  process for increasing production of livestock and livestock products in view of food security in the state.
On the other hand in respect of those farmers who are keeping livestock and poultry intheir home, the training programme should have removed most of their doubts and confusions which are generally encountered in their life of livestock and poultry farming, through the interactions conducted with the resource persons during the training period.
He also said that for successful livestock and poultry farming, many things right from the selection of suitable breeds, construction of good housing, feeding balanced feeds, good and hygienic management, controlling and prevention of different livestock and poultry diseases are essentially required, he added.
