IMPHAL, April 30(NNN): The Tangkhul Co-ordination Committee (TCC) has called a 24-hour Ukhrul district bandh on May 5 over the Autonomous District Council (ADC) issue.

The bandh will begin from midnight of May 4.

The TCC said the decision to call the bandh has been taken today in protest against the “force imposition” of discarded ADC Act. “The communal government of Manipur has time and again undermined the wishes and rights of the Naga peoples`™ through force imposition of ADC Act. We strongly opposed the creation of Executive Director of DRDA, as it comes under the discarded ADC Act. Therefore, no developmental programs/schemes are to be implemented under Executive Director, DRDA,” the TCC said.

Other demands of the Tangkhul body includes immediate withdrawal of above mentioned repressive Act from the hill areas and also that all the developmental programs/schemes to be implemented only through the Deputy Commissioner with immediate effect.

“Ignoring the democratic voice of the peoples of Ukhrul district in particular, the communal government of Manipur shall bear all the unwanted eventualities. All democratic ways and means shall be adopted to intensify the agitation till our legitimate demand is fulfill. This is general information to all the concerned authority and individuals for strict compliance. However, the Electricity Department, PHED, Telecom and Medical Department shall be exempted during the bandh,” the TCC said.
