Women (general) seats reserved in eight Imphal municipal council wards

IMPHAL, April 25: The aspirant candidates of various wards under the Imphal Municipal Council have intensified their election campaigns by starting door to door visits for the ensuing election to the Imphal Municipal Council which is scheduled to be held on May 25, following the official announcement of reserved seats for the Women and Scheduled Tribes candidates for the said election on April 20.
On the other hand the state government is in active preparation for the ensuing election of the 27 wards of the Imphal Municipal Council following the approval for holding election to these wards in a recent cabinet meeting which has resulted in the State Municipal Administration Housing & Urban Development, (MAHUD) making initial preparation for the said election by conducting the lottery system.
The election has been reserved for women and ST candidates on April 20 at GM Hall Imphal by the lottery system conducted by the department.
As per the result of the conduct lottery, eight Wards including, Ward No.1- Thangmeiband, Ward No.6- Uripok, Ward No. 27-Uripok, Ward No.7- Sagolband, Ward No.11-Keishanthong, Ward No.14- Singjamei were declared reserved for the Women (General) seats while that of Ward No.26-Wangkhei has been reserved for Woman (ST). the same lottery result has reserved Ward No.25- Thangmeiband and Ward No.22-Wangkhei for the Scheduled Tribes.
It may be mentioned that with the enacted of the Manipur Municipality Act 1994, in the state the election of Municipal Councils in the state was first held during 1995, 2001, 2006 and the ensuing election will be the fourth election of the Municipal Council during which election of additional two members of Ward Development Committee for every wards will be held along with the election of Councilors of the ward as per the recently enacted rules of the state for the proper implementation of development schemes and projects for various wards.
On the other hand, in view of the ensuing election to the Imphal Municipal Council Election Returning Officer (ERO), SDO Imphal West Radharani Mutum has made the official notification that, the Final Electoral Rolls for Imphal Municipal Council from Ward No. 1 to 17, 24, 25, and 27 prepared in accordance with the Manipur Municipalities (Election of Councillors) Rules, 1994 have been published and a copy thereof is available for inspection with the SDO during the office hours, the official order added.
