YAS office building set on fire

IMPHAL, April 11: Office of the Youth Affairs and Sports (YAS) office located at at Khuman Lampak sports complex was set on fire by unknown miscreants today morning.

The incident occurred around 10:15 am this morning. None of the staff were at the office during the time of the incident although the office remained open by the Chowkidar of the department at the usual timing of around 9 am.

Some important files of the department and two invader vehicles, bearing number MNO1W/1525, MN06L-1467, was charred in the fire.

The burnt file was mostly of the general section office, file in the office of the PA to the director of YAS and store room. One of the the two vehicles burnt by the miscreants is beyond redemption.

Police sources speculated that the arson might have been carried out by a group of people using kerosene oil.

However the fire department put off the fire and prevented from further spreading to nearby buildings.

The director later revealed that he was present in his office chamber during the time of the incident doing some work related with DPC meeting. The incident came to his notice only when he saw some smoke rising from the office building.

Meanwhile when queried of the possibility of the incident relating to any external or internal disturbances the director was reluctant to give his comment on the matter.

According to the Chowkidar of the office identified as one L. Satramani revealed that he opened the office as routine today morning and had no clue on how the incident occurred.

Even as the fire could be brought under control at about 10:30 am, a matchbox and few matchsticks were found littered on the staircases of the office.

According to an insider source on April 10, 2011, there had been a fall out between some of the staffs of the office, but nothing has been established just as yet about the involvement of insiders.

Unofficial sources disclosed that the department earlier had some problems on the DPC and further informed that the office was also once locked down by miscreants.
