ZP Sahabuddin`s JAC calls off NH 39 bandh

IMPHAL, April 2: The indefinite bandh imposed along the NH-39 by the JAC against the killing of Sahabudin has been called off following an understanding reached between the Government and the JAC.
Owing to the agreement the JAC and family member of the deceased has claimed the lifeless body of the deceased this afternoon.
Speaking to media persons, Abdul Salam, an active member of the JAC informed that a meeting between the representatives of the JAC and the chief minister was held today in his office chamber at around 8:30 am in the morning. The meet was arranged by Kakching MLA, Y. Surchandra.
During the meet the JAC member put up several demands which included Judicial inquiry, ex-gratia, opening an outpost at Sora and providing jobs to the kin of the deceased, said Abdul Salam.
The Chief Minister agreed to provide a post of teacher to the eldest son of the victim and assured to take up appropriate initiatives to fulfill the other demands of the JAC, said the JAC member.
Following the understanding brought between the two sides the lifeless body of the deceased was claimed by the JAC and family.
On the other hand, the Kakching police has lodge a FIR in connection with the killing u/s 302/34 IPC, 25(1-c) A act, 13/16/20 UA(P) Act 1967.
In the meantime, the lifeless bodies of the couple, Noorsana and Majibuddin, who were killed by a mob fury in connection with the killing of Sahabuddin, was handed over to their respective family members after post mortem, said police source.The JAC was formed on Friday by villagers of Sora in Pallel of Thoubal district in Manipur following the death of a 28-year-old Zilla Parishad member Md Shahabudin, s/o (L) Md Kamal-u-din on Thursday demanding, inter alia, a suitable job for member of the deceased person, ex-gratia, etc.
The JAC has warned the government not to renege on the promises saying that if the agreements are not acted upon at the earliest possible time the JAC will intensify its agitation.
The police have been unable to trace as of today any link to the death of the Zilla Parishad member and the resultant public rage that killed a couple suspected to be involved in the killing of the former.
