IMPHAL, May 22: A havildar rank personnel of the 2nd IRB was among four individuals arrested by security forces in separate incidents as active militant cadres since May 21.
According to a statement of the SrSP Imphal West district, acting on credible information on May 21, a team of the Imphal west district police commandos arrested an active member of the PREPAK at around 2:05 pm from near the gate of Imphal College identified as one Thingujam Basanta Singh, 41, s/o Th. Kukil Singh of Thoubal Kiyam Mayai Leikai.
The release added that, on spot verification, the arrested individual identified himself as a havildar of the 2nd IRB and working under the command of one s/s Rocky of PREPAK.
He was assigned to extort money from government contract works and also transportation of arms and ammunition under the command of one Rohit of PREPAK, the release added.
One mobile handset was seized from his possession, it added.
The release further stated that the district police commandos have arrested another project officer of the proscribed KCP MC the same day at around 5:30 pm from near Pakhangba Travel’s Counter.
According to the release the individual is identified as one Nameirakpam Binodkumar alias Modol alias Madal Singh, 42, s/o (L) N. Ibohalbi Singh of Khurai Sajor Leikai.
On spot verification Madal disclosed that he joined the outfit through one Jhony of Pukhao in the year 2006. He was assigned to extort money from general public under the instruction of one Rameshore, it added. In a separate incident a combined team of 28 Assam Rifles and 18 Sikh along with police Singjamei arrested two militant cadres which included a PLA and a PREPAK cadre in a search operation launched in the general area of Singjamei Chanam Leikai Pukhrimapal in the wee hours today around 2:30 am, stated a statement of the PRO IGAR (S).
According to the release the PLA cadre is identified as one s/s sgt major Iron Sumendro alias Ningthaba, 36, s/o Ibo Thombi of Singjamei (No.0567) while the PREPAK cadre is identified as one Petty RK Boi alias Mairi, 36, s/o RK. Sanahan of Kwa Lephrapam (No. 9453).
Both the arrested militants have been handed over to Singjamei Police, it said.
