Agriculture minister calls farmers backbone of the state

IMPHAL May 11: A Farmers’ meet cum Kishan mela organized by department of Agriculture, government of Manipur was formally inaugurated today, at a function held in G.M. hall, Imphal. Various prizes for Crop Competition 2010 to 2011 were also distributed to the progressive farmers selected from five districts of the state during the function.
Terming the basic role of farmers as the backbone of our society, Ph. Parijat Singh, minister Agriculture opined that developmental and welfare initiatives and schemes provided by the Agriculture department were solely meant for the growth of the farmers and as such they must orient themselves with new technological know how and scientific methods in agricultural activities. He also expressed his contentment to the results shown by various progressive farmers located at various places in the state.
The inaugural function was graced by Ph. Parijat Singh, minister as the chief guest, Dr. L. Palandro Singh, director of agriculture, govt of Manipur as the president, Letkhogin Hoakip, IAS, commissioner agriculture, Govt of Manipur and Dr. N. Prakash, Joint Director, ICAR, Imphal as the guests of honour respectively. The dignitaries also distributed prizes for Crop Competition 2010 to 2011 on various categories to the progressive farmers selected from the different districts. Five farmers from each district of Bishnupur, Chandel, Imphal-east, Imphal-west, Tamenglong and Thoubal were selected for the prizes. Each prize contains a shawl, a memento and a cash reward.
The function was attended by guest, invitees, farmers and other general public coming from different corners of the state.
