Arrested KCP admits hand in mobile tower caretaker killing: police

IMPHAL, May 28: The Imphal West district police during a press conference held today produced a cadre of the KCP Ningamba group who has admitted his involvement in various attacks on mobile towers including the killing of an Airtel mobile tower caretaker at Wangkhei Wangkheimayum leirak recently.

Speaking at the press conference which was held at his office chamber this afternoon, SDPO, Imphal West N Modhunimai mentioned that taking serious concern over the recent spat of attacks made on mobile towers and caretakers in various parts of the valley in recent times, the Imphal West district police has been conducting a series of operations based on intelligence inputs.

He further added that during one such operation, the Imphal West police arrested the KCP cadre identified as one Laishram Gunanmai alias Guru, 31 s/o late Rajen Singh of Kongba Laishram Leikai on May 19 from the North AOC area.

The officer further mentioned that, during the course of police interrogation, the arrested cadre has revealed that he along with another accomplice whom he identified as one Jiten a former PLA cadre and presently a KCP Ningamba member had jointly under the command of one Binita Singh who is an acting town commander of the outfit started attacking mobile towers in the state.

Further briefing at the conference he stated that during interrogation, the arrested cadre L Gunamani who is under judicial custody at present confessed to the police that he is personally involved in the shooting of Oinam Borbabu of Wankhei Wangkheimayum Leirak a care taker of an Airtel tower on April 4 last month.

It is also learnt that he was involved in the attacking the residence of a care taker of Vodafone tower located at Kongba Laishram Leikai which left a son of the caretaker with a bullet injury.

The official further mentioned that, an active process have been taken up by the state police to track down the other involved KCP militants in attacking the care takers of mobile towers in the valley districts.

The SDPO Imphal west further sought cooperation from the people of the state in the fight against such anti social elements during the future course of operational activities.
