IMPHAL May 26: The president of All Tribal Disables`™ Union Manipur (ATDUM) in a press release has appealed the state government and the concerned authorities to extend the State Medical Board (SMB) for issuing disability certificates at the respective hill district headquarters as soon as possible.
A memorandum had been submitted in this regard to the concerned authority demanding expansion of the State Medical Board (SMB) which is instituted by J.N. Hospital, Imphal to all the district head quarters, considering the problems and difficulties faced by the disabled/ physically challenged persons of the hills in order to avail their Disability Certificates, the release added.
The release also appealed the concerned authorities of Autonomous District Council to arrange the posting of physically challenged teachers in their own respective villages or nearby schools in their own villages.
Demanding the construction of a multipurpose training Institute for physically challenged tribal persons, the release appealed the concern authorities to take necessary steps to realize the demand. It has also appealed the District Social Welfare Officer (DSWO), Tamenglong to enable functioning of the office efficiently to facilitate the issuing of the Indira Gandhi National Disability Pension Scheme (IGNDPS) and Window Pension Scheme and also appealed the concerned authorities to extend the service of all 25 Multipurpose Rehabilitation Workers that are engaged in disability cell / section under Social Welfare Department, Manipur.
The release further added that the 25 employees have been engaged on contract basis since August 24, 2004 and their service was extended till February 2011. However, out of these 25 employees only 13 of them were found to be recommended for further extension, the release added. A meeting has been convened with federal units on May 30 to discuss on various issues, the release further mentioned.
