CM acknowledges contribution of Don Bosco schools in the state

IMPHAL, May 2: Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh said, Manipur is very fortunate to have some of the best schools of Don Bosco Society and stated that some of the best brains and personalities have been produced by these schools.

The Chief Minister was attending a function organized to mark the arrival of the relic of Saint Don Bosco held at Don Bosco School, Chingmeirong, Imphal yesterday morning.

The Chief Minister who attended as the chief guest mentioned that quality education with spiritual and humanitarian values has been the guiding principle of Don Bosco and the contribution of Don Bosco schools and colleges and the great noble deeds of the Salesian society particularly in the education sector is applauded and acknowledged by all.

He also mentioned that, the history of Christianity is more than 100 years old in Manipur. It has brought not only a new faith but also new and modern values in the state and further lauded the role of Christian missionaries in various welfare activities especially their outstanding performance in the field of education.

It is also mentioned that five out of the nine districts of Manipur have majority tribal population of Christian brothers and sisters who have been living with the rest of people from time immemorial and added that peaceful co-existence of all communities and religion have been the hall mark of Manipuri culture and ethos.

He said that, the state government is making its best efforts to bring development to all sections of the society and urged the general public in general and civil society in particular to extend their helping hand. He also appealed to the spiritual and religious institutions for cooperation to preserve the unity of the Manipuri society and culture.

He further remarked that, the arrival of the relic of St. Don Bosco in Manipur is a rare honour for the state. He observed that the event would be one of the most cherish-able moments for all and further wished that the vision and noble spirit of St Don Bosco would remain alive to guide all towards peace and development.

The formal function held yesterday was also attended by Rajya Sabha MP, Rishang Keishing and the function.
