IMPHAL May 15: Chief Minister O Ibobi today attended a flag hoisting ceremony of INC ward number 18 candidate, Aribam Nimai Sharma at Bhrampapur Aribam Leikai today. The function was also attended by MLA of Yaiskul constituency Elengbam Suraj and deputy speaker Th Lokeshwor. The Chief Minister in his speech as chief guest said that out of the 27 municipality wards going into election on May 25, there are hardly any opposition candidates to the Congress candidates as other political parties in the state have fielded their candidates in just seven municipal wards. He further said that what will the public gain by giving votes to the other political parties who will remain as minority even if their candidates are elected and they will remain ineffective in carrying out the development works. He further stated that in the last concluded Nagar Panchayat and Municipal elections, the majority was gained by the Congress candidates and what can be expected from the so called opposition parties who cannot even field candidates for all the contesting wards.Dwelling on the unethical conduct of other political parties, he said that some veteran leaders of other parties shamelessly attend programs of the Congress without invitation or having a pre poll alliance. Questioning the conduct of such politicians, Ibobi exclaimed on what their motives are and where their principles have gone.A commendable opposition political party should have credibility, strength and moral values, he lamented the fact that aside from the Congress, other parties have already bitten the dust and have discredited themselves. He further stated that, the SPF governance has been taking up various programs and other developmental projects for the welfare of the public. Many schemes and projects are carried out under a time bound frame. He said that even if the SPF government cannot carry out the development works in totality, there is no laxity in carrying out the works and the Congress led government continues to try to meet the demands of the people and will continue doing so. The win of the Congress party in Assam will also herald further progress for the north east including Manipur, he said.
