IMPHAL, May 11: The Imphal West district police commandos have claimed to have foiled an attempt to trigger a major blast in Imphal during the Union home minister’s visit in the state with the arrest of two militant cadres of the proscribed PLA/RPF.
The police team also recovered huge explosive materials from the militant cadres said the police.

Briefing media persons in this regard during a press conference held today at the commando complex, Imphal West, additional SP, AK. Jhalajit, stated that the militant cadres were arrested yesterday night at around 10 pm during an extensive combing operation and cordon and search operation launched in the area of Kwakeithel after receiving reliable intelligence inputs, in connection with the visit of the Union Home Minister, P. Chidambaram.

They were arrested from their respective residence around 10 pm said the Additional SP adding that the specially organized operation supervised by him was led by Deputy SP, S. Ibomcha and OC Imphal West commando.

The arrested individuals have been identified as one Moiranthem Bheigya alias Chaoba, 55, s/o (L) M Kula Singh of Kwakeithel Laishram Leikai and Potsangbam Brojen alias Koba, 50, s/o P. Ibopishak Singh of Kwakeithel Moirang Purel Leikai.

The Additional SP also disclosed that Moirangthem Bheigya is a switch board assistant of the electricity department. He has been working under the department using the fake name of A. Chaoba Singh s/o (L) A. Udhop Singh, Kwakeithel Laishram Leikai.
The duo was working under one S/S Sgt. Robertson of PLA/RPF and further assigned to ambush security forces and to plan a huge blast or to cause major casualty during the visit of the Union Home Minister, he stated.

One 9mm pistol along with one magazine containing 25 live rounds, three Chinese made hand grenades along with two detonators, were recovered from Potsangbam Brojen while 2.2 kg of TNT explosive materials, an electric detonator, one wireless set (YAESU), a mobile hand set, one identity card in the name of A. Chaoba Singh issued by Electricity Department and one tourist accreditation card in the name of Chaoba were recovered from the possession of Moirangthem Bheigya alias Chaoba.

The recovered items were handed over by Robertson to ambush at security force and planning for huge blast or to cause major casualty on visit of the Union Home Minister, maintained the Additional SP and asserted that Chaoba used to communicate with top leaders of the RPF/PLA like Shamungou, Prabin, Loya, Khrisna and Ranbir etc, who are all residing at Guwahati and Myanmar and transfer huge money from one place to another for maintenance of their frontal organizations and work out according to their freewill, added the Additional SP.

He further maintained that the arrest was a huge success for the Imphal West district police commandos and its intelligence for it had successfully foiled the attempt of a blast that could have cost lives besides the plan to disrupt the visit of the union Home Minister.

In the meantime, the Additional SP further stated that in a separate incident a combined team of the district police commandos and 116 BSF battalion during an operation recovered four high explosive grenades and one Chinese hand grenade last night around 10:30 pm from the house of one Taorem Manglemchandra Singh, 23, of Kodompokpi Maning Leikai, an active member of PREPAK.
