DoNER minister all praise for state players; 10 from state among 12 NEC sports awardees

IMPHAL, May 27: Twelve outstanding sportspersons of various disciplines including ten from the state will be conferred with the NEC Chairman`™s Sports Awards as announced earlier by the DoNER ministry.

`As we announced in the last month, we will be conferring the NEC Chairman`™s Sports Awards to 12 outstanding sportspersons from the North Eastern Region who won Gold, Silver or Bronze medals in the Commonwealth Games, Asian Games & National Games in the year 2010-11 during the 60th NEC Plenary Meeting to be held at Parliament Annexe, New Delhi on 16th -17th June, 2011`, said Shri. Bijoy Krishna Handique, Minister of DoNER at New Delhi today, stated an emailed statement of the ministry.

The statement has further added that Handique mentioned that `It is heartening to learn that out of the 12 awardees this year, 10 are from Manipur. Therefore, it is the Government to recognise their accomplishments in the sports arena in a befitting manner in the presence of all Chief Ministers and Governors of all the NE States`. He also mentioned he was proud to be a part of this process and occasion.

Among the outstanding sportspersons including the ten from the state Somdev Kishore Dev Barman, Tripura will be receiving Rs 33 lakhs for his gold in the recent Commonwealth games and two golds and a bronze in the Asian games.

Jayanta Talukdar of Assam will be awarded Rs. 9 lakhs for his two bronze in the Commonwealth games and another from the Asian Games.

Of the state sportspersons, M Suranjoy will be awarded with Rs 13 lakhs for his one gold and one bronze in the Commonwealth and the Asian games. Y Renubala and L Bombayala Devi will received Rs 10 lakhs each for their one gold each in their respective disciplines in the recent Commonwealth Games.

NG Sonia and W.Sandhyarani will each get Rs 5 lakhs.

Kh.Bheigyabati, M.C Mary Kom, A.Sandhyarani, L.Monica, M.Bimoljit will get Rs 3 lakhs each.

The Cash Awards for Olympic Games are Rs.40 lacs, Rs.20 lacs and Rs.10 lacs for Gold, Silver and Bronze Medal Winners respectively. For Asian/Commonwealth Games they are Rs.10 lacs, Rs.5 lacs and Rs.3 lacs for Gold, Silver and Bronze Medal Winners respectively and Rs.3 lacs, Rs.2 lacs and Rs.1 lac for Gold, Silver and Bronze Medal Winners respectively for National Games.
