IMPHAL, May 21: The founder members of the Modern College Imphal and many other organizations today appealed the authority concerned to review the cabinet decision to shift the college to another place.
The appeal was made during a press meet held at Khurai Lamlong today. Speaking to media persons in this regard the retired principal, Dr. Thoudam Nandababu disclosed that Modern college stands at seventh rank in terms of student population among the colleges of the  state.
He further observed that many projects have been taken up in the college under the UGC and further expressed his apprehension that shifting of the college from  its present site might reduced its earlier status.
At the same time the shifting will affect the semester systems of some subjects which will be followed under the guideline of UGC, he said.      The president of the Union of Social upliftment, M. Bimananda, while stating that they are not against the proposed plan of the Government regarding JNIMS, stresses the need to keep both the JNIMS and the college undisturbed.
Further pointing out that JNIMS have enough area for its proposed expansion the president maintained that Modern college covers an area of 16 acres while the proposed site for shifting the college is only 3 acres.
