Government cancels May 30 UNC tripartite talks

IMPHAL, May 29: The proposed United Naga Council tripartite talks between representatives of the Union Government, state government and the UNC which was scheduled for May 30 at Senapati district head quarter has been cancelled by a recent state cabinet decision.

According to an official source the decision was made in consideration to the arising law and order situation in the state especially in Senapati district.

The source also mentioned that the state government is in no position to attend the talk as the UNC has failed to submit their agenda to the state government, who had only decided to hold the talks in the first place considering the issues raised by the UNC.

The source further mentioned that, with the confirmation of the cancellation of the said talk by the state government and with intimation sent to the centre, it has been established that the representative of the ministry of home affairs, GOI, UK Bansal, internal security, secretary MHA who had already started his journey for the May 30 scheduled talk returned after reaching Kolkata.

Meanwhile the official source has also stated that the state government even as the failure on the part of the UNC to send in its agenda to the state government, the state government was also wary of the sudden visit of the Nagaland ministerial team led by Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio to launched their political party NPF at Senapati district, which also happens to be the same venue for the now cancelled tripartite talk.

Meanwhile, the source also mentioned that even as the first round of proposed talks have failed, the state government is willing to hold the talks later.

It may also be mentioned that, the state government in its recent cabinet meeting taking serious count of the repeated pressure to hold for a tripartite talks with the government had taken the decision for holding the tripartite talks with the UNC, along with representatives of the central government and state government on May 30 this month.

The official source also further mentioned that, with no responses from the UNC authorities, the state government had sent an official intimation to the centre to postponed the tripartite talks and there has been positive implications from the centre that the proposed tripartite talks with the UNC has been cancelled from the centre.
