Govt clamps restrictions on UG coverage by state media

IMPHAL, May 28: The state government has imposed restrictions upon the print media as well as the electronic media of the state on the publication of news items which is directly or indirectly in support of the unlawful/ illegal activities of various organizations.

In this connection an official notification was issued by the state Special Secretary Home, AK Sinha which elaborated that many of the articles/news reports published/broadcasted which directly or indirectly support the unlawful/illegal activities of various organisation not only question the sovereignty and integrity of India but also tend to incite the public against the sovereignty and the territorial integrity of India.

The official memorandum of the state home department further mentioned that, many reports/articles are also published through which illegal monetary demands are made against individuals/organizations or making so called clarification including ` Sengdokchaba/ Changjarakadabani` etc.

Such publications which are defamatory/intimidatory in nature spread fear and terror among the public, it added.

It is also further mentioned that state government has taken a serious view of the matter and now advised all engaged in print as well electronic media to refrain from publishing such articles/news/reports/photographs which supports or tend to support the unlawful activities of various organizations which are against the provisions of the Constitution of India, various statutes, rules and regulations.

In case of violation of the law of the land, strict action will be taken in accordance with law, the official memorandum of the state home department added.
