IMPHAL, May 13: Expressing strong concern and dismay over the quality of works executed at the on-going black carpeting of NH-39, the Senapati District Students’ Association (SDSA) has demanded the state government to deal with the matter urgently and also warned it will continue to fight vigorously to improve the lifeline of the state. A statement issued by the students’ body said that after a series of spot inspection by the SDSA, it has made shocking discovery, finding many potholes and cracks already appearing even after less than 2(two) months of the works being completed. Making it loud and clear to the state government, minister, contractors and workers, the SDSA stated that it will not spare any irregularities or lack of quality but react accordingly. Repeated appraisals and appeals in the local papers were published in the past for effective implementation of the NH-39 development funds, but the snail pace of work and poor quality maintained has damaged the reputation of the much anticipated “finally developed & improved NH-39”, it said.Till date many areas of NH-39 still remain unattended besides the on-going works are too slow as the coming monsoon will disrupt the whole works, thus worsening even the already competed works in some areas it observed. It claimed that the works between Maram and Senapati is of poor quality and many areas between Maram and Mao remained tattered and deplorable for the general public of Manipur. It lamented that the concerned Engineers and Department agreed with the type of works already completed. The SDSA would again demand the state government and concerned department to urgently look into the issue without delay, failing which, the SDSA will not hesitate to close down all the machineries and stop the NH-39 works until visible and quality improvements are seen into “seriously and urgently”, further warned the statement.
