IMPHAL, May 30: At a towering 5 feet 10 inches, Lin Laishram gives most of her Manipuri male counterparts a complex leave alone the Manipuri girls. A sportsperson, top notch model and an aspiring actress, the local lass has many credits under her hat. 
In an exclusive interview with IFP, she said that she came down from New York, taking leave from her busy modeling schedule to manage the aspirants of the Miss Manipur 2011 contest.
“I feel that there is enough potential in the state, there are many promising girls among the contestants who can make it big, they just need to be shown the proper direction to get ahead in their modeling career”, she said.
At present, she is showing the Miss Manipur contestants the ropes on how to perform the part in a beauty pageant.
“I wanted to share my experience with the girls, there are no proper agencies here which can train them to become professionals as of yet, the glamour industry of the state is still in its infancy, even then I do feel that we have progressed much”.      Linthoingambi Laishram was born to L Chandra Singh and Surodhoni Devi and is a resident of Palace Compound, Imphal .
While she was in school, her father encouraged her to enter sports. She represented the state at the All India National Archery Championship in Rajasthan and she was the first Manipuri to get selected for the Tata Archery Academy. She has won many awards including best sportsperson of the year and also the 1998 Junior National championship.
After suffering an arm injury, she decided to leave the sport and moved to Mumbai where she got her  Master’s degree in Sociology.
In Mumbai she was discovered by world renown modeling agency “Elite Models”. Her exotic looks and her tall structure was an instant hit in the modeling world and soon became the center of attraction for all the big designer and photographers. She has worked with the top names in the glamour world including top designers like Tarun Tehiliani, Shantanu Goenka, Rohit Bal to name a few.
She has walked the prestigious International Beauty Show held at New York 2008, New York Bridal Week fashion show, shows for Lee, Levis , Wrangler, Wills India Fashion Week and the impressive list goes on. She was also offered movie assignments from bollywood movies and had appeared in the Bollywood superhit movie “Om Shanti Om” and has acted in a cameo role in “Hattrick”. However she would not stop there.
Lin moved to NYC to further refine her skills in modeling and acting. While on a casting set, she was discovered by a world renowned jewelry company “Ozuro”, who went on to sign her on as their brand model. She also attended Stella Adlers and other acting schools in New York and in Mumbai. She is involved with various projects right now.
Lin loves traveling, cooking, adventure sports and is a movie buff. Also a Miss North East 2008 title holder, she will be managing the Miss Manipur contestants tomorrow.
