Manipur donates Rs. 6.64 lakh for Japan`s tsunami victims

NEW DELHI, May 18 (MIC): The fund of Rs 6, 63,694 /- raised by voluntary donations from public leaders, individuals, government officials and social organisations from Manipur during the last month in aid of Japan`™s tsunami victims was handed over to the Embassy of Japan in India, Santipath, Chanakyapuri here today.

The Indo-Japan Friendship Assocation, Manipur in collaboration with the media partner Poknapham daily took the responsibility of collecting a fund for Japan earthquake and tsunami victims by creating the fund on April 11.

A delegation of three members of the Indo-Japan Friendship Association, Manipur comprising of Nongmaithem Ibomcha Singh, president, Waikhom Bhumeswar Singh, vice-president and Irengbam Mangan Singh joint secretary handed over the amount to Koju Matsubayashi, First Secretary, Embassy of Japan in New Delhi along with the list of 304 donors.

Nongmaithem Ibomcha Singh , president of Indo-Japan Friendship Association, Manipur, in the meeting , told to the First Secretary of Embassy of Japan that Manipuris deeply felt the sympathy to the sufferings and sorrow of the disaster in Japan. Though it was a small amount collected in a joint effort, it was their sincerest help for friendship, he added.

Koju Matsubayashi, First Secretary of Embassy of Japan in India extended his gratefulness to the people of Manipur for sending contributions towards the relief of the victims of Tohoku district – off the Pacific Ocean Earthquake which severely hit Japan on Friday, March 11.
