IMPHAL, May 27: The Naga Peoples Front, Manipur unit has reacted strongly to the joint statement of all political party meet with regard to launching of NPF in Manipur.
Speaking to mediapersons at Senapati today, president of the NPF, Manipur unit G Gaingam said democracy is based on the wishes of the people and aspiration of the Naga people to be under one administrative unit is universal to all Nagas. This position is also upheld by the Naga Hoho, the Naga Student`™s Federation, United Naga Council, All Naga Student`™s Association Manipur, Naga Women`™s Union, the Naga Peoples Movement for Human Rights and other constituent tribe members.
The tendency to give a communal tag to the nomenclature `Naga`™ at every opportunity is highly provocative and undesirable and playing of communal card must be stopped immediately to promote harmony among the different communities, Gaingam said.
While clarifying that Article X(A)(1) of the NPF Constitution has been amended by the sixth amendment of 2009, Gaingam said any citizen of the country who subscribe to the principles of the NPF shall now be eligible for primary membership of the party as per the Article XI(A)(1). The erstwhile nomenclature of Nagaland People`™s Front has now been changed to Naga Peoples Front by the said amendment, Gaingam clarified.
Branding NPF as communal is a challenge to the Election Commission of India as the later has recognised the NPF as a regional party, he said adding AIDMK and DMK in Tamil Nadu and Peduchery and JMM in Orissa and Jharkhand state are regional parties which according to political parties in Manipur will also be communal parties.
Gaingam also said there is no truth in leading instability and spread of communal disharmony in the opening of NPF unit in Manipur.
