IMPHAL May 18: In a major turn of event, the agitating staffs who were demanding payment of their pending 13 months salary and proper functioning of office of Manipur Voluntary Health Association were left astounded this morning on finding their office located at Wangkhei Ningthem Pukhri Mapal, locked allegedly by the secretary of the same without any prior notification to the staff.

One of the technical staff said that usually by 4 pm most of the staffs use to leave office, however, yesterday at 4pm, the secretary had a meeting with some officials and no notification was put up regarding the meeting till this morning.

However today the staffs were left dumbstruck to find the office locked without any prior notifications, he added.

Interestingly, on May 16, the staffs held a protestation at the office for improper functioning of the office and non payment of their salary for the past 13 months.

Condemning the indifferent attitude and act of the secretary on their plight, the staffs of MVHA alleged that as being the secretary of Manipur Voluntary Health Association, the secretary is also holding a post of Postmaster at a central government establishment and is at present posted at Ghari. He also runs an NGO by the name Mani Health which has its office at Nambol, as such the dual office position allegedly held by the secretary is against the official employment norms of the government, they added.

Further, the staff members appealed the concerned authorities and rightful citizens of the state to look into the prevailing issue of the functioning of Manipur Voluntary Health Association and to find a viable solution so as to restore the effective working system of the MVHA office as it was before.

On the other side, many patients undergoing various treatments related to HIV/AIDS and Tuberculosis were left high and dry as the necessary medication were not available due to the non functioning of the MVHA office today. One patient undergoing TB treatment was left victimized by the circumstances as the patient needed a particular dosage in a time bound limit for effective treatment of his aliment. It may be mentioned that anti TB drugs which should be administered phase wise to the patients if not administered on time has severe health consequences. The patients mainly come to the centre for close affinity and MVHA`™s hard rule to keep their patients anonymous.
