IMPHAL May 7: A meet on holding plebiscite in the state was organized by Nachou Sports Development Association (NSDA) at Nachou community hall today. The meeting was attended by Nongmaithem Sanatomba Singh, social worker, Laishram Tamon Devi, president NYLL and Bhramacharimayum Radharani, secretary NYLL as the chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.UPF general secretary, O Bikramjit and TH Manihar, president of MAPI council were the resource persons of today’s function.Bikramjit in his speech opined that holding of plebiscite is the only resolve to the present conflict situation in the state. He stated further that many insurgent groups are mushrooming and all have separate agendas instead of waging war against the Indian nation demanding independence.Nowadays, the sole purpose of many so called insurgent groups is to extort money and terrorize the public.Recently, a certain UG group stated that the attempt of holding a plebiscite is against the interest of the separatist movement and is not the proper decision. Bikram said that any alternative arrangement is welcome beside the call for plebiscite which is itself a democratic exercise, the group needs to state clearly any other stance which is logically feasible to bring about an end to the present conflict between the insurgents and India. It is a fact that the Indian army has the advantage due to its sheer numbers, but the insurgents have stood the test of time, now, the public is tired of the conflict and wants an end to it. The call for holding the plebiscite is a feasible option as such a democratic exercise involving the public can be carried out in the best of interest.
