Pol parties to fight it out in IMC election

IMPHAL, May 6: Complying the recent election notification for election to the 27 wards under Imphal Municipal Council which is scheduled to be held on May 25 in 241 polling stations in both Imphal East and Imphal west districts, filing of nomination papers have started since yesterday with a total of 29 aspiring candidates for councilors filing their nomination papers to the concerned ROs of both the districts till today.
Altogether ten BJP candidates, seven Congress candidates, three Trinamool Congress candidates and  nine independent candidates filing in their nomination papers to their respective ROs.
Meanwhile various political parties of the state have started their political strategies in view of the ensuing election as the ruling Congress party has decided to field 25 candidates including 14 women candidates and 12 candidates who are sitting councilors.
The MPP will be sending only one candidate while the BJP has already filed nominations for its 10 candidates.
It is also speculated that the Trinamool congress who had defeated the Congress in the recent Konthoujam Bye polls will be fielding seven candidates to contest in the ensuing IMC election even as the party has already filed nomination papers for three party candidates.
On the other hand, so far there has been no clear picture on the part of CPI to send out their candidates to contest the said election as the final decision of the party to send out their candidate to contest the ensuing election to the Imphal Municipal Council will be made during the executive meeting of the party which will be held tomorrow, said a source.
It may be mentioned that, the state Chief Election Officer had issued an official election notification for the election to the 27 wards under Imphal Municipal Council on May 4 and subsequently the official notification for the election of the Ward Development Committee was also issued by the concerned Returning Officer of the both districts of Imphal Imphal East and Imphal West.
It may also be recalled that, the ensuing election to the Imphal Municipal Councils covering seven Assembly Segments including Thangmieband,  Uirpok,  Sagolband, Keishamthong, Yaiskul, Singjamei  and Wangkhei will elect 27 councilors along with 54 Ward Development Committee in the ensuing election.
A total voter population of 1,62,248 in which 77,913 are male and 84,355 are female will exercise their right to franchise in 241 polling stations including 66 polling stations in Imphal East and 175 polling stations in Imphal West.
As per the recently issued election notification by the state Election Commission, last date of nomination will be May 9 and Scrutiny of the nomination papers will be done on May 10 this month and withdrawal of the nomination paper will be on May 12 for the scheduled poll which are to be held on May 25.
