Powerful blast rocks Imphal; three of family left injured

IMPHAL, May 28: At least three persons of a family, a mother and her two daughters were injured when a powerful bomb exploded inside the campus of Autonomous District Council (ADC) office located inside the Khuman Lampak sports complex in the Morning today. One among the two daughters has been seriously injured by the explosion.

The explosion that took place around 10 am also inflicted severe damage to the office building of the ADC office besides sending pieces of the car, where the bomb is believed to be fitted, over hundreds of metres away from the explosion site.

The injured victims have been identified as Holdim alias Boinu Singson, 44, w/o Lalboi Singson of Patjang of Sugnu at present staying at Balbhawan quarter, near the ADC office. The two daughters are identified as one Neiching Singson, 11 and Lucy Singson, 15. While Neichin is a student of class V, Lucy is a nine standard student and both are studying at St. John School New Lambulane.

Of the three injured Neichin is said to be in critical condition with her intestines left exposed due to the blast. While her mother Boinu sustained splinter injuries on her head and Lucy at her right shoulder. Neiching and Boinu are currently undergoing treatment at the JNIMS.

According to police, the bomb had been planted inside a car (Maruti car white in colour). Shattered pieces of the car were found inside the campus and in an around the nearby area. The bomb also created a crater of about 2 too 3 foot deep and over a metre wide.

The bomb besides destroying completely the computer room of the office inflicted damage all over the building.
Sources further stated that the injured children were playing inside the office complex of the ADC office while the mother was standing at a nearby shop.

According to family source of the victims, the father of the two injured sisters, Lalboi who is the chowkidar of the Balbhawan office had met an individual prior to the blast who had came asking a meeting was going on at the ADC office.

However Lalboi left the man saying that he had no idea and went back into his house and minutes later the explosion occurred.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister of Manipur has strongly condemned the incident terming it as an act of cowardice. He further stated that it was very unfortunate and stated that the culprit will repent for their crime and injuring innocent civilians.
