Preparations begins for the IMC election

IMPHAL, May 4: Election code of conduct will be imposed in both districts of Imphal East and Imphal West following the official issuance of the election notification for the election to the 27 wards of the Imphal Municipal Councils today by the State Chief Electoral officer Th. Chitra Devi.

According to the official notification, filing of the nomination for the said election will be on May 5 and scrutiny of the nomination papers will be done on May 10, and May 12 will be the date of withdrawal of the nomination papers by the candidates.

It also mentioned that, the election to the wards under Imphal Municipal councils will be held on May 25 this month and counting will be done on May 29 at the concerned DC office complexes of Imphal east at Porompat and Lamphelpat for Imphal West district.

In the meantime, with the adoption to include election for the Ward Development Committee members of every ward simultaneously with the election of the respective councilors of the wards of the Imphal Municipal Councils, separate order has been issued by the respective Election Returning officers of both Imphal East District and Imphal West district today.

In the meantime, according to an official notification issued by SDO Imphal east, Election Returning officer of the district today, mentioned that an election is to be held to fill the vacancies of the Ward Development Committee of the Ward No. 18, 19,20,21, 22,23, and 26 of the Imphal Municipal Council and it is also informed officially that nomination papers may be delivered by a candidate or by any of his/her proposers to the RO at his office between 10 am and 3 pm on any day (other than public holiday) not later than May 9. And the nomination papers will be taken up for scrutiny on May 10 while the notice of the withdrawal of the candidature may be delivered either by a candidate or where the candidate is in jail or police custody, by any person authorized by him on his behalf in person to the concerned RO during office hours.

It may be mentioned that in view of the ensuing election to the 27 wards under Imphal Municipal council on 25 of this month the state government has chalked out security strategies wherein maximum of five state security personnel will be deployed in each and every polling stations and it will be strengthened with the security forces at the reported sensitive and hyper sensitive polling stations on the eve of the poll, the official source added.

In the meantime, nearing the date for the election to the Imphal Municipal councils the aspiring candidates have intensified their election campaigns by visiting house to house begging for votes.
