IMPHAL, May 6: Unidentified gunmen reportedly fired two rounds of gunshot at the Canchipur Catholic School gates yesterday at around 7:40 pm under Singjamei PS, which revoke the school to come up in protest and organized a protest rally this evening at around 2pm.
In connection with the firing incident a protest rally was organized this afternoon at around 2 pm by the school which was participated by students and staffs of the school.
The rally started off from the school gate and proceeded up to the Manipur University gates and returned back to the school. While decrying the violent act of attacking an educational institution, a teacher of the school, Brojendro while speaking to media persons on the sidelines of the protest rally stated that the rally was organized to condemn the violent act of the unidentified gunmen.
Speaking on behalf of the schools, he further appealed to all concern parties not to repeat such incidents in the future.
Around 300 students of the school participated in the protest rally, holding placards which read ‘we condemn gun in school’, ‘stop killing one another’, ‘aeikhoi shanty leina lairiktumge’ etc.
Meanwhile Singjamei police has registered a formal case concerning the shooting incident.
