RIMS OPD re-opens under tight security

IMPHAL, May 26: The Out Patient Department (OPD) and administrative block of the Regional institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) have been made to re-open after three days under a tight security arrangement from this morning as usual.

The two main blocks of RIMS including OPD and Administrative blocks of the RIMS were closed down indefinitely from May 24 afternoon around 1 pm all of a sudden leaving patients at the OPD section clueless and hapless, following an intense threat from a faction of the KCP militant group.

In the meantime taking concerned over the grievances which have been facing by patients from different parts of the state, the authorities of RIMS despite having threats from under KCP militant group decided to re-open the said two important blocks from this morning as usual under tight security provisions of Manipur Police Commandos and IRBs.

Initially soon after the opening of the OPD and Administrative Block of the RIMS this morning the heavey team of Manipur Police Commandos and IRBs deployed in and around the RIMS campus have conducted their massive frisking and checkings to the suspected persons in the RIMS campus today and there was no report of arresting any suspects during security preventive measures today.

Besides, there has been witnesses of less patient turn up to the hospital despite of opening the OPD today.

It may be mentioned that, the two important OPD and Administrative blocks of RIMS were remained since last three days following an intense threat from a faction of the KCP militant group.

The Medical Superintendent In charge of the hospital, Prof. H. Shanti, had already disclosed that the authority were compelled to close down the two blocks owing to a diktat imposed by an individual who identified himself to be an activist of one of the KCP factions over the phone. And he further maintained earlier that the militant group called him up on the phone asked him to close the blocks and warned of dire consequences if the authority failed to pay any heed.
