Security beefed up; around 200 rounded up from Paona Bazar in connection with HM visit

IMPHAL, May 9: Security measurement has been tightened up in Imphal in connection with the visit of the Union Home Minister to the state.Imphal west district police commandos have conducted various massive cordon search operations today at separate locations around the Imphal west district in connection with the high profile visit.The cordon search operation was led by Dy. SP (Ops) S. Ibomcha Singh and started since today morning near the Imphal Airport and Changangei Uchekon areas and later conducted operation at Kwakeithel areas. The team further conducted search operation at Paona Bazar along the Governor road.During the cordon search operation conducted at Paona Bazar around 200 individuals were held for further verification, however most of them were release after verification while the individuals who were unable to provide valid identity cards were detained furthermore and later handed over to the concerned police stations for further verifications.Speaking to media persons on the sideline of the operation Dy. SP (Ops) S. Ibomcha Singh said that the operations which were carried out at different locations of Imphal west district is part of preventive measurement in connection with the visit of the Union Home Minister, P Chidambaram.Meanwhile, it may be recalled that the Union Home Minister will be arriving in Imphal on May 10 at 3 pm by a special BSF Enpraer aircraft for a two day visit to the state. And he will halt for the night at the Imphal Raj Bhavan. During his visit he will meet the Governor and the Chief Minister on the first day of his visit at around 7 pm.The union minister will be inaugurating the mini secretariat complex at Ukhrul the next day. On his return from Ukhrul the same day he will meet various sections of the society including leaders of several civil society organizations. The Union Home minister is slated to depart Imphal at around 6 pm of May 11 by the same aircraft that brought him to Imphal.And further it may be mentioned that a joint security meeting attended by the state DGP, GOC 57 Mt Div, IGAR(S) top official of the state government, officials of paramilitary force was held at the Chief Minister’s bungalow recently in connection with the visiting of Union Home Minister.
