Singjamei grenade attack accused arrested along with eight other UGs

IMPHAL, May 3: Security forces have arrested at least nine militant cadres involved in various anti social activities and recovered huge cache of arms an ammunitions from separate counter insurgency operations launched during the last two days.

In the first incident the Imphal West district police commandos following intelligence input provided by the 116 BSF arrested a hard core cadre of KCP Noyon faction involved in various anti social activities from his residence on May 1 around 5:30 pm in the evening.

The individual has been identified as one Oinam Ronbindro alias Romen alias Roshan, 31, s/o (L) O. Ingocha Singh of Kakwa Nameirakpam Leikai.

Briefing media persons in this regard at the commando complex, North AOC, the DSP Imphal West district Police commando, S. Ibomcha, said that the KCP cadre has been working under one Rohit, project officer of KCP (Noyon).

He said that the arrested cadre took the main role in exploding a hand grenade at the residence of EE Ranbir Singh of Singjamei super market in which one Havildar of 7 MR was killed and one Rifleman was also injured. Moreover he had recently collected rupees 20 lakhs from IFCD and MI departments of the state government and send the same to one Noyon of the party, he added.

One 9mm pistol along with one magazine and nine live ammunitions and two detonator was recovered from him, added the DSP.
S. Ibomcha, DSP, Imphal West Police, further stated that another team of the district police commandos arrested another five cadres of the KCP (KK Mangang faction) the same day at around 2 pm in the evening from Singjamei Thongam Leikai.

The individuals have been identified as Maibam Chaoba alias Ibotomba, 30, s/o M Kumon Singh of Ukhognsang Maning Leikai, Salaibam Rajen Singh, 30, s/o (L) S. Bijay Singh of New Checkon, Maibam Manisana alias Tomba, 23, s/o M. Naba Singh of Ukhongsang Maning Leikai, Okram Brojen Singh, 34, s/o O. Ibomcha Singh of Uyungpok Maning Leikai and Chongtham Amarjit Singh, 23, s/o Ch. Chandramani Singh of Kwakeithel Mayai Kiboi.

The DSP stated that they are all working under one Pari alias Merajao and one Rockey who are at Nepal presently.

Of the five cadres, Chaoba had collected a sum rupees 50 thousand from one Pastor namely Rajmohan of Langol and another seven thousand from a Tata Magic vehicle plying along the Keibi line. Moreover he had served a demand letter to one Dr Rupachandra of Akampat and was planning to lob a bomb at a residence at Langol under the instruction of Merajao, he maintained.

Amarjit received three hand grenades from one Rajenpao of Porompat two of which were distributed while O Brojen had arranged shelter for the UGs and deposited the money into a bank account under the name Thoiba to reach Merajao, said the DSP.

One Chinese made hand grenade, one 9mm pistol along with magazine, one high explosive grenade lever and one type writer were recovered from the possession of the cadres.

At the same time, the DSP further claimed that a team of the district police commandos in yet another incident arrested three more cadres of the KCP Malemngaba faction yesterday at around 3:30 pm from Singjmei Thongam Leikai.

The individuals have been identified as one Laimayum Rahichandra alias Tachou alias Tamo alias Thoibi, 43, s/o (L) L. Gopal Sharma of Singjamei Thongam Leikai, Guruaribam Brajamani alias Inao, 33, s/o G. Sanayaima of Singjamei Thongam Leikai and Salam (N) Sapam (O) Gita alias Ebemma, 30, w/o (L) S. Nongdamba Singh of Wabagai.

He said Rabichandra prepared all the demand letters for the outfit and put the signature of the publicity secretary Yaiphaba and Rabinchandra was instructed to launch an attack at the Airtel towers, said the DSP.

Two .32 pistols along with 2 magazines with four live ammunitions, 17 filled demand letters and eight blank demand letters, three lime seals, one round seal and three mobile hand sets were recovered from there possession, he said.
